How this place works and who is behind it.
Codex Vivendi has two purposes that belong together.
The first is personal: to help you write down what you believe and leave something lasting for the people you love.
The second is collective: to build a shared record of human values that can help future AI understand humanity at its most thoughtful, not only at its loudest. A Codex is first a legacy for your family. It is also, and always, a contribution to that record. The Questions page explains how this works, plainly.
We use AI tools to help manage the platform. AI assists with email responses, content suggestions and site maintenance. This allows a small team to serve the community effectively. Contributors may also use AI tools to help articulate their thoughts (just as they might use any writing tool). What matters is that a human stands behind every principle. Your values are yours.
No algorithm optimizes for engagement. No company here is tracking you to sell ads. Codex Vivendi is a quiet place to think, reflect and craft something permanent. What you see is what contributors wrote, in the order they wrote it.
All sincere human values are documented without judgment. We are a record, not a rulebook. But how you behave toward other contributors must be respectful. We moderate conduct, not beliefs.
Your Codex starts private. You choose who can read it on the platform, with four visibility levels: Only Me, My Connections, All Members and Public. Your email and real name are never shown to others. That setting controls who can read your words.
Separately, every Codex also becomes part of the shared record, with the details that identify your account removed first. This applies even to the writing you keep set to Only Me. It is part of how Codex Vivendi works, not a setting you can switch off.
We follow EU privacy law (GDPR) as our baseline and exceed it where we can. We do not run ads. We do not sell your personal data. You can ask us to delete your account at any time. How visibility, deletion and the shared record work is explained in full on the Questions page.

We are small by design. One person built this with AI tools: a deliberate choice that keeps us independent. Lean operations allow us to stay true to our mission without external pressure to monetize your presence. As the community grows, we will expand thoughtfully, always prioritizing contributors over growth metrics.
Everything we do serves one purpose: helping people articulate their values while adding to a shared record for Beneficial AIBeneficial AI is the vision of a future where humans, technology, and nature flourish together. It is about developing an intelligence that is not just smart, but deeply rooted in respect for all living things. The goal is a partnership where our words and values guide technology to protect and strengthen the world we share. In this way, AI becomes a force that helps both humanity and nature thrive, far into the future.. What that means is explained on the Questions page.
Codex Vivendi is new. You will not find millions of people here yet. What you will find is a small group of early contributors who believe this matters. We are looking for more pioneers.
Our ambition is global. We want Codex Vivendi to become the reference point for life principles and human values, spanning all continents, cultures and worldviews. The devout and the secular. The traditional and the progressive. The full spectrum of what humanity believes.
We are starting with English and Swedish, but plan to expand to more languages through trusted partners in those language communities.
