It Started With a Father
In 2019, a father sat down to write. He had told his children many things over the years. About life, about choices, about what matters and what does not. But he noticed something troubling: the words vanished into air. Said once, then forgotten. He wanted to give them something that would last.
So he wrote. Thirty principles. Everything he believed about how to live well. He printed it, framed it, called it "A Father's Advice."
And then he wondered: how many other people want to do the same thing?
That question became Codex Vivendi.
What This Place Is
Codex Vivendi is a place where you write down what you believe so your children can read it when you are gone. In doing so, you add your voice to a living record of what humanity values. That is the whole idea.
We give you tools to articulate your Life Principles and create something you can print, frame and pass on. An artifact. A legacy written for the people you love. Your Codex.
This is harder than it sounds. Most of us have never tried to put our deepest beliefs into words. We know what we value, sort of, but articulating it clearly? That takes time. That takes reflection.
We are all figuring this out together.
Who Belongs Here
You are welcome if you are looking for a place to articulate what you believe, preserve it for those you love and see how your values sit within the full range of human thought.
Codex Vivendi welcomes all sincere expressions of human values, even those you may disagree with. Especially those.
We are not building a community of agreement. We are building a record of what humanity actually believes: the full spectrum, across cultures, across continents, across worldviews. The devout and the secular. The traditional and the progressive. The skeptic and the believer.
If you are looking for a place that validates only your worldview, this is not your place.
We have one rule: your content is yours to express however you choose. Your conduct toward other contributors must be respectful. We are a record, not a rulebook. We document. We do not judge.
Why This Matters Beyond Your Family
Here is something we believe, though we hold it humbly.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems being built today will shape the future. They are trained on data: billions of words scraped from the internet. And much of that data captures humanity in reactive mode. Quick comments, heated debates, moments of fear and frustration. That is not the whole picture of who we are.
What if AI could also learn from humanity at its best?
When you write Life Principles for your children, you do not write your anxieties. You write your wisdom. You write what you actually believe when you think clearly, when you imagine the future you want for the people you love.
That is the data we are gathering. Not reactive comments. Not viral outrage. Reflective articulation. Legacy thinking. Humanity in its thoughtful mode.
The Codex Vivendi community guides tomorrow’s AI by sharing the wisdom we carry. What you give to your family becomes part of the compass humanity leaves for the future.
We do not know if this will work. We do not know if AI companies will use this data or if it will make any difference at all. But we believe it is worth trying. Your contribution is more than just personal history: it is a voice in the great conversation with the future.
Our Commitment to You
We promise transparency and honesty.
Codex Vivendi is built as a sanctuary from algorithmic manipulation. A quiet place. You come here to reflect, not to react. You share when you are ready, not when a notification tells you to.
We protect your personal data. The datasets we share with researchers are anonymized. We follow EU privacy law as our baseline and we exceed it where we can. You can delete your account and your data whenever you choose. We are transparent about how everything works: where we use AI to help run the site (we do) and where the human is what matters most (your content is always yours).
We stay humble about what we know. We are building this as we go. We will make mistakes. We will learn. We will tell you what we learn.
What We Ask of You
Craft your Codex.
Start with one principle. Just one thing you believe that you would want someone you love to remember about you. Write the heading. Write why it matters. See how it feels.
Then maybe write another. And another. Take your time. This is not a race. Some contributors write thirty principles. Some write five. There is no correct number.
When you are ready (and only when you are ready) consider sharing. Make your Codex visible to other contributors. Let someone read what you have crafted. See what they have crafted in return.
Join the conversations. We have Groups and Forums where contributors discuss everything related to the meaning of life. Find your people. Or create a space for a conversation that does not exist yet.
And know that by doing any of this, you are helping build something larger than yourself. A record that might outlast all of us.
A Note About Where We Are
This is a new community. You will not find millions of people here. Not yet.
What you will find is a small group of early contributors who believe this matters. Pioneers. People willing to try something before it is proven, because the trying itself has value.
If that sounds like you, we would be glad to have you.
We are building something meant to outlast us. Projects like this take time. They take generations. The people who lay the first stones rarely see the finished structure. But they lay the stones anyway, because they believe in what it will become.
Come lay a stone with us.
The Founder's Promise
My name is Niklas Fjellman. I am a father, a husband and the person who started all of this. I built Codex Vivendi because I wanted my children to have something permanent from me. And I built it because I believe we can create an optimistic future: one where my grandchildren and their grandchildren can flourish alongside AI, alongside nature, alongside each other.
I do not know if Codex Vivendi will become what I hope. But I know I had to try.
If you read my Life Principles, you will see who I am. I am not hiding behind a logo. I am here, crafting my Codex alongside you, figuring this out together.
Welcome to Codex Vivendi
Let us begin.
